I have a very good friend who also teaches first grade in another city in Iowa and I'm already thinking about ideas for ways our classes could collaborate on activities. I truly learned a lot last week from the TPACK approach, so right now I am focusing on the content. There is a lot to think about right now, but I am hoping that eventually my friend and I can work something out for our students. I am also very excited to learn more in 556 about technology & literacy and how I can effectively use them in my new classroom.
Congratulations!! You have already been given many tech tools in this class that would be useful. My fifth grade class works with a kindergarten class and one of my favorite programs for the computer is Starfall. It gives them many opportunities to explore letters, sounds, recognition and much more. I have a really good friend who teaches first grade. Actually my student from teacher a couple of years back student taught in my fifth grade classroom and he got hired to be a first grade teacher and he truly enjoys the job. I remember the excitement of setting up my first classroom. I still love setting up my classroom and since I teach fifth grade I use a lot of their work and by now our classroom is looking pretty put together with their work being displayed through out. I learned from last week that I am quite the technocentric teacher and I will have to work to retrain my brain, but I have tried to be more aware this week of what I am doing and why and which is coming first the lesson or the technology?
ReplyDeleteOnce again congratulations and I am so excited for you!
Have a good rest of the week and Monday will come very soon.
Congratulations Alyssa - that is such exciting news! That first job is a fantastic adventure. I know you will be very busy and have a lot to do, but do keep TPACK in mind as you design your lessons, even for 1st graders. You'll discover more applications as we move forward....
ReplyDeleteWhoohoo! Congratulations! A first job is truly exciting and nerve-wrecking. Enjoy every moment, even the hard ones and have a teachable attitude...no other place teaches as much as the 'real world'. Once again, congratulations!
